Here is the list of the different places where you can swim and perform water activities during your stay in Digne les Bains and in the Val de Durance in Haute Provence.

Take a dip

If it’s not possible at “Les Gîtes du château”, no worries, there are plenty of other options! How about going to a swimming pool (such as the Aquatic Complex of Eaux Chaudes in Digne-les-Bains, 11km away)? Or to the Ferréols lake along the Bléone river (free access, 14km away)? If you’re willing to travel a bit further, there are also the lakes of Verdon (such as the Bauduen Beach on the shores of Lake Sainte-Croix, or the Esparron Beach), or why not a beach by the Mediterranean Sea? The choice is yours!

To fly

Why not taking to the skies to admire the landscape? The exceptional air currents in the region allow you to try or learn paragliding and gliding. Baptisms, initiation or advanced courses are organized by various providers in Digne-les-Bains for paragliding (15 km); for gliding, it’s at the Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban aerodrome (41 km). Lot of information is available on the Tourist Office website. Give it a try, it’s amazing!

To climb

Feeling adventurous ? Want to be in contact with the rock in the heart of a geological reserve? What could be more natural! The exceptional landscapes seen from the height of a cliff, the bottom of a ravine, the hollow of a basin, or even the foot or summit of a waterfall, are what climbing, canyoning, and via ferrata have to offer! The Haute Provence offers many sites for these outdoor activities.

For beginners or those not experienced, professional guides are there to secure your practice and tell you about the places, adapting to your level. For the more experienced, numerous routes are marked throughout the region. Discover the via ferrata of Rocher de Neuf Heures in Digne-les-Bains (14km from our accomodations) with a zip line, and the one on the Meichira cliff in Prads-Haute-Bléone, with free access (equipment rental available). Thrills guaranteed!

To row or to paddle

To discover the wild landscapes in a different way, to be impressed by the height of the cliffs seen from below, to be as close to nature as possible, whether it’s a sporty, playful, or tranquil experience, canoeing and kayaking are the ideal means of transportation, and the gorges and lakes of Verdon provide the perfect setting! Many rental companies and nautical bases along the famous turquoise waters of the gorges and around the lakes offer various courses of varying distances. By staying on or sometimes in the water, you can also enjoy these incredible landscapes by pedal boat, paddleboard, electric boat, or sailboat. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or looking for a peaceful ride, Verdon will be your favorite playground! In the summer, be sure to rent your boat early in the morning, as there can be traffic in some places!
