Anecdote
Not far from Digne-les-Bains, Pierre Gassendi was born in 1592. He was the son of a farmer who, thanks to his intelligence, pulled himself away from the land to reach the sky. This is hardly a metaphorical statement, as after studying theology, he became initiated in astronomy and corresponded with Galileo. Later, his work would leave a mark on astronomy, particularly his studies related to the transit of Mercury. In memory of his celestial observations made from Provence several centuries ago, and because the conditions for observing the sky here are exceptional, thanks to the great clarity of the air and the near-total absence of urban lights, the idea for the lodging “Près des étoiles” was born. You will surely be amazed by the stars overhead that you have never seen in such great numbers.
Description
Reaching the gates of heaven is quite hard… from the courtyard you will take the central staircase of the castle with its stone steps carved by the passage of time and people, up to the 3rd floor. It is up there, under the castle’s roof, that this 35m2 flat for two people will surprise you. It is a luminous cocoon where you will stay a little closer to the stars.
You will love the cosy and warm atmosphere, with its small open and colorful kitchen that overlooks, as an appreciated privilege, a roof terrace. You’ll appreciate this space just for you, equipped with a barbecue, a table for your meals, two deckchairs to rest from your explorations and enjoy the panoramic view in the calm of the surroundings.
Inside, passing under the beam, you will enter a spacious room nicely decorated in shades of ocher and red with its double bed and, oh surprise, a whirlpool bathtub. How about taking a bath while contemplating the starry sky ? This is where the magic resides, as it is located just under the roof window, a well of light by day, a vault of stars by night. For your comfort, a bathroom is also attached to this room.
And why not take a little walk outside and go down to the courtyard of the “castle”, this large Provençal farmhouse but nevertheless a noble residence…
…More than a hundred years ago, the two imposing chestnut trees were already there. Only they can tell what they have witnessed, and now they offer their benevolent shade for your moments of sharing with other guests, perhaps.
Different areas are arranged in the garden, surrounded by greenery, inviting you to laze around, read, nap or play a game of “pétanque”. Enjoying the present moment is what inspires us about this place.
In La Robine-sur-Galabre, a small village of 320 inhabitants, you will be ideally located to discover Digne-les-Bains with its two cathedrals, the archaeological crypt of Notre-Dame-du-Bourg, to pamper yourself at the Thermes with their hot waters, to take a dip in the Ferréols lake along the Bléone, to observe birds in the ornithological reserve of Haute-Provence, to dream and imagine in front of the works of Andy Goldsworthy scattered in Refuges d'Art throughout the Digne area...
The location of the "Près des étoiles" cottage is also ideal for discovering unique and extraordinary places in Provence, all within a maximum of 2 hours' drive, such as Carry-le-Rouet on the Blue Coast, the lesser-known Sillans-la-Cascade with its 42m waterfall and emerald green waters, the Lubéron and its astonishing and spectacular Colorado provençal in Rustrel, the famous Gorges du Verdon and its extraordinary landscape as well as Lake Esparron, the steep trails of the Barre des Dourbes culminating at 1988m with the Pic de Couar, and then quietly returning to your base camp in the evening.
