Anecdote
The dovecote was reduced to a pile of stones at the foot of the circular remains of the original wall, and also old pictures from the last century show it still standing like a sentinel. It was therefore restored in the typical form of Provençal dovecotes, with its single-sloped roof arranged in a cascade, its openings framed by ceramic tiles in the warm colors of Provence facing south to shelter the wood pigeons from the north wind. The decorative diamonds arranged like a coat of arms give the dovecote a majestic, slightly aristocratic air that recalls that until the Revolution it was displayed as an outward sign of wealth subject to taxes that only a lord could pay, and restores the status of the big Provençal farmhouse to that of a castle. This citadel for birds tells us of a time when doves and pigeons played a role in rural life as a means of communication, providers of delicate meat, and above all, fertilizers of agricultural land thanks to their droppings. Listen carefully and hear them cooing the story of noble Provence and the Provence of the land.
