L'anecdote
“The castle” of La Robine-sur-Galabre has undergone many changes and transformations in its long life. Today, it has been restored into various holidays apartments, but in the 4th century, there was a chapel on this site (now the dining room and its kitchen overlooking the courtyard). While one can imagine that in its heyday, the Count of Barras or the count of Auribeau probably feasted in this residence, it was later left somewhat abandoned, becoming the home of a shepherd for one part, and for the other part it was a bar until about twenty years ago! The bar counter was located in the current living room, and the stone sink in the corner of the room remains as a memory of that bygone time.
Description
For your family or friendly reunions, you will love “Le château”, a 139m2 apartment that can accommodate up to nine people but which can host up to twenty three guests in the dining room. You will be surprised by this 2-floors flat designed for conviviality and sharing in a somewhat noble and august setting. You will constantly oscillate between past and present, between the life of a noble lord and that of a tavern customer; it is this unique atmosphere that characterizes this accommodation. You will travel through time with the prestige of the high ceilings of the 4 bedrooms respectively named Roseline, Gustine, Phylomène and Léontine in tribute to these women who, for 3 of them, ran the bar in the last century, the lovely moldings, the elegant columns, the beautiful carved fireplace, the wall tapestries, the antique doors and you will return to the present with the dining room furnished with old tables from the bar.
If the “quiet” space with the bedrooms and two bathrooms is located on the first floor, life of the group is organized on the ground floor. Upon entering, you have a large living room where you can spend good times, there is even a piano to brighten up your evenings, even if it is not very tuned! Right next to it is the well-equipped kitchen for the logistics of a group and following it the dining room where we wish you a good meal.
Let’s take a little walk outside through a “secret” door that gives you direct access to the courtyard of the castle by its ancestral spiral staircase whose stone is worn by the passages…
…This beautiful courtyard, sheltered by two hundred-year-old chestnut trees, offers you the possibility to become a master griller thanks to the stone barbecue. You can even have lunch outside on the wooden picnic tables. Various spaces are also set up to encourage sitting or lying down and watching time pass in tranquility. Children are not forgotten with a swing set and on the other side of the road, at the foot of the famous “Robines”, a volleyball court. If you are many, no need to worry about parking your vehicles because several parking lots are arranged.
In this small village of La Robine-sur-Galabre, you will be ideally located to discover Digne-les-Bains with its two cathedrals, its thermal baths using hot springs where water flows at 50°C, the Alexandra David-Néel’s house where a museum is dedicated to her, the sculptures of Andy Goldsworthy scattered in Refuges d'Art throughout the territory of Digne, the 200 million-year-old ammonite rocky slab, and the list goes on and on.
But the location is also perfect for discovering Provence in all its diversity while returning in the evening to spend the night in tranquility and calm: the wild Verdon Gorges, the fragrant lavender fields around Valensole, the majesty of the creeks between Cassis and Marseille, the pure air of the summits of Provence such as Montagne Sainte-Victoire, Cousson, Les Cloches de Barles...
